The Men’s Lacrosse Club at UC Davis is a competitive college lacrosse club that plays in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL), a subdivision of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA). The MCLA is a national organization of non-NCAA college lacrosse programs. The MCLA currently operates in the US and Canada with 213 teams in two divisions, across ten conferences. The WCLL is one of the most competitive club leagues in the MCLA, including UC Berkeley, Cal Poly SLO, Chico State, Santa Clara, Sonoma State and Stanford.
In the 2018-2019 season, the Men’s Lacrosse Club at UC Davis took home the WCLL DII Championship for the first time, and earned the automatic qualifier to compete in the National Tournament. After returning to scheduled play following the COVID-19 pandemic, we defended our title in the 2021-2022 season.
We practice and play our games on Dairy Road Field, which is a turf field. Much like an NCAA program, we have two seasons: Fall and Spring. In the Fall, we practice 3 days a week, compete in our annual UC Davis Men’s Lacrosse Alumni Game, host the CALI Tournament for teams on the west coast, and compete in several scrimmages as well. In the Spring, we increase practices to 4 days a week and we play our 6 conference games, along with anywhere between 6-8 out of conference games. During our spring break, we travel across the country to compete against teams from Boston, MA, Orlando, FL, Austin, TX, Boise, ID, and this year San Diego, CA.
Since we are a club organization, players pay dues each Fall and Spring season. Fall dues are typically $750, which covers practice uniforms, any tournament fees, hotels, transportation and coaching. Spring dues are typically $1250, which covers league and conference fees, referee and trainer fees, hotels, transportation, and coaching. Additionally, these dues cover new and/or updated team gear including gloves, helmets, and bags for new players and for returning players, when applicable.
